It grows in humid forests at an altitude of between 100 and 300 metres.
It has been less commonly used than the other Kentia,
It differs from the latter in that its leaves are more curved and it never reaches the same height. In fact it barely reaches 10 metres in its original habitat.
It is not demanding as far as soil is concerned, preferring well drained, damp, but not flooded ground.
Outdoors once it is well established it can tolerate sunny locations perfectly well. As a house plant it is almost as easy as
