Livistona mariae
Only a few thousand plants currently survive where they originally came from (Finke Gorge National Park), not far from the Alice Springs desert in central Australia.
Red is the dominant colour of young plants but the waxy leaves gradually turn to what is finally a glaucous green. It has a thicker trunk than other Livistona.
Like the Livistona decora, it is very rustic and can tolerate all types of soil. Likewise it can withstand long periods of drought, once it is well established and strong winds. It prefers sunny sites.
Livistona rigida (Mataranka palm) is considered to be a subspecies of Livistona mariae.
Pot, 110-130 cm.(tr.)
Root-ball, (2,00-4,00 m. tr.)
