The gardens of Aveleda are a marvellous example of the romantic garden created in Portugal at the end of the XIX Century. The original design has been faithfully respected, which along with its originality, it being on unusual garden, make a visit to Quinta da Aveleda, with ist granite buildings, vineyards and cellar of excellent wines, something different and very appealing.
The oak trees, redominant here, seem to frame the larg camelias, azaleas, eucalyptus y sequoias
Scattered here and there are a series of the most original of buildings: a hut with a thatched roof to one side of the entrance; a goat shed with an outer ramp on the other side; a great lake with a precious tea-house at the back of the garden in adittion to fountains, Gothic ruins, streams… and all that is needed to make Aveleda an exception among Portuguese gardens.
In short, a walk around the state that is enjoyed right from the start.
