Although the name of Les Cèdres originates from King Leopold II of Belgium, one of the first owners, the real constructors of this excellent garden were Alexandre Marnier-Lapostolle, the great lover of exotic plants who bought the garden in 1924, and above all, his son Julien, who introduced and acclimatized, with a truly scientific spirit, a great variety of species until achieving an extraordinary botanical collection of Mediterranean, tropical and subtropical plants.
Of the 1400 Species that crowd the garden, greenhouses and walks, the highlights include, for their curious nature, the Victoria amazonica and other aquatic plants growing in a large lake and, for their botanical interest, the almost 200 different species of palm trees and cycads, more than half of which grow in the exterior and many of which are over a hundred years old. Mention must also be made of the cacti and other plants from desert regions, the epiphytes plants (bromeliads, mainly) and bamboos.
The garden is only open from early spring until late June to botanical and gardening groups and associations prior appointment with the management of Les Cèdres.
