Initially, this orchard was just one amongst many of its kind growing date palms (Phoenix dactylifera), and today they still constitute the biggest palm plantation in Europe.
The name comes from having been the property of a priest at the begining of the XX century, but it is the Orts family who have, little by little, converted it into one of the few gardens open to the public that is worth visiting, in the whole of south-east Spain.
Its collection of palm trees, succulents and cacti is notable, and includes the exceptional Imperial Palm tree which is 150 years old and weighs almost 10 tons. It is shaped by eight branches of big size.
